Anova Culinary Precision Cooker 3.0 (AN525-US00)

D2 Cloud-Optional — Full function with the router off.

The unplug test

You set time and temperature on the cooker's own touchscreen and press start; it heats the water bath and runs the cook with no WiFi, no app and no account, exactly as it would connected. What you lose without the cloud: starting or checking a cook from your phone, Anova's recipe library, cook history, and (for anyone who did not have an Anova account before 21 August 2024) those app features sit behind a $2/month or $10/year subscription. None of that touches the physical cook.

Why this tier: Anova's own product page states the device is operated 'with the controls or the app' and describes a two-line touchscreen that sets time and temperature and starts a cook directly on the unit. A vendor cloud plainly exists and is nameable: the Anova Culinary app connects to Anova's own cloud for remote monitoring/control, and Anova's 2024 subscription FAQ describes an account-gated tier of that same app. Core function — heating water to a set temperature for a set time — runs entirely on-device with no app, no account and no network. What the subscription and account gate is app-only: recipe discovery, cook history, and remote start/monitor from a phone.
