Devices that still work when the internet doesn't.

Computing & Networking / printer

Brother HL-L2400D

D0 No Radio — No radio at all. It cannot phone home.

The unplug test

Nothing changes. It is a USB cable and a laser engine. There is no Wi-Fi, no Ethernet, no app, no account, and no subscription prompt during setup. The printer cannot fetch a firmware update on its own because it has no way to reach the internet — any update has to be pushed deliberately from the computer it is plugged into.

Why this tier: Manufacturer specifications list Hi-Speed USB 2.0 as the only interface, with no wireless or Ethernet, while sibling models in the same line (HL-L2405W, HL-L2460DW) are sold specifically as the wireless variants.
