Tools & Outdoor / weather station
Davis Instruments Vantage Vue with WeatherLink Console (6242)
D2 Cloud-Optional — Full function with the router off.
The unplug test
Everything you actually bought keeps working. The sensor suite outside goes on transmitting to the console over its own radio every 2.5 seconds regardless of your internet, and the console keeps displaying and graphing from a database stored in the console itself. You lose uploads to WeatherLink Cloud, the online community, and the optional Alexa integration. You do not lose a single reading.
Why this tier: A vendor cloud exists (WeatherLink Cloud) and is genuinely optional: the sensor suite links to the console over Davis's own local radio, the full historical database lives on the console, and every measurement and graph works with no Wi-Fi and no account.

Open questions
- What frequency and protocol does the sensor-to-console link use, and is it documented enough for third-party receivers? If the link is open, this record arguably belongs at D1.
- Can console firmware updates be declined? Unresolved, and it determines whether this D2 is stable.
- Is there a documented local API or local network export from the console, or is WeatherLink Cloud the only way to get data off it programmatically?
- Current US price band not established.

Manufacturer states the console operates without an internet connection; the sensor suite transmits wirelessly to the console with a 1,000 ft range updating every 2.5 seconds; historical data is graphed from storage on the console itself. Wi-Fi and a free WeatherLink Cloud account are described as needed only for cloud upload, community features and Alexa. No subscription fees mentioned. — accessed 2026-09-02 - A https://www.davisinstruments.com/pages/vantage-vue
