United Chargers Grizzl-E Classic Connect 40A

D2 Cloud-Optional — Full function with the router off.

The unplug test

The car still charges. United Chargers' own support documentation for this charger platform states it will keep charging with no Wi-Fi connection at all, falling back to being a 'dumb charger' that just follows the vehicle's own charging request. What is lost without Wi-Fi and the Grizzl-E Connect app is the charging schedule, usage/cost tracking, remote start/stop, and enrollment in utility demand-response programs — conveniences layered on top of a charger that works the same as the wired-only Classic when disconnected. A minority of owner reports online describe charging stopping after a Wi-Fi drop, which conflicts with the vendor's own statement; this is noted rather than resolved (see open_questions).

Why this tier: The manufacturer's own support article states plainly: 'The Grizzl-E Smart will still charge the vehicle without a Wi-Fi connection. The charger will act as a dumb charger and follow the instructions from the vehicle. The app and smart feature will not be usable' — core charging is unaffected by connectivity, and only scheduling, usage tracking, remote control and demand-response participation require the Grizzl-E Connect app and its account. Wi-Fi setup is a separate, skippable step from installation (plug in, charge), so this is cloud-optional with core function intact offline: D2.
