The unplug test
Turn it on, clip it to a finger, and the number appears on the device's own LED screen within seconds — no phone required at all. What the Bluetooth link and the MyVitals app add is a continuous history, a plethysmograph waveform, and a perfusion index; without them you still get the same SpO2 and pulse-rate reading the device exists to produce, you just do not get a log of past readings, since the device does not appear to keep one on its own.
Why this tier: The manufacturer's own product page states the device has its own LED screen that displays the SpO2 and pulse-rate reading directly, and that the free iHealth MyVitals app (backed by iHealth Cloud) is something you 'can' pair for extra history and waveform visualization, not something setup requires. Core function (taking and displaying a reading) works with the device never paired to anything, and the vendor's cloud is a named, optional add-on, which is the D2 row on the decision table.
