Midland MXT275 15W MicroMobile GMRS Two-Way Radio
D0 No Radio — No radio at all. It cannot phone home.
The unplug test
There is nothing to unplug. The MXT275 is a vehicle-mounted GMRS two-way radio: turn the knob, pick a channel, press the microphone's push-to-talk button. It has a wired control microphone (RJ45 connector, not wireless), no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, no app, and no account of any kind. Every function documented in Midland's own user guide — channel scan, NOAA weather alerts, repeater channels, privacy codes — runs entirely inside the radio. Nothing about it can be revoked, updated against your will, or tied to a vendor server, because it was never connected to one.
Why this tier: Midland's own full user guide documents every control on the unit (channel/volume knob, wired RJ45 microphone, menu button, PTT) and every function (GMRS channels, NOAA weather, repeater channels, privacy codes, squelch) with no mention anywhere of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an app, or an account. The only FCC grant found for this model (MMAMXT275, 'MOBILE GMRS TRANSCEIVER') covers only the licensed GMRS/repeater frequencies (462.55-462.725 MHz and 467.55-467.725 MHz) used for the radio's actual transmissions, not a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth band. Per the FCC heuristic, a licensed-service transceiver grant is expected for a radio and is not itself evidence of a cloud connection; there is no cloud connection here at all.

Open questions
- The schema's `radios` enum (wifi, ble, zigbee, zwave, thread, cellular, lora, nfc, rfid_lf, dect, proprietary_subghz, proprietary_24ghz, ir, unknown) has no value for a licensed-service two-way radio (CB/GMRS/FRS transceiver at 27 MHz or 462-467 MHz). This device's entire function IS its radio transceiver, so tagging `radios: ["unknown"]` understates what is known; a human should consider adding a value such as `gmrs_cb` or `licensed_2way` to the schema. This is a taxonomy gap, not missing evidence — the FCC grant (MMAMXT275) fully documents the actual radio.
- Whether the MXT275 requires the owner to hold an FCC GMRS license to legally transmit (it does, per Midland's own FCC Notice in the manual) was confirmed, but this is a legal/regulatory requirement rather than a vendor/account dependency and does not affect the tier.
- Current exact street price beyond the manufacturer's listed $199.99 was not cross-checked against retailers.

Manufacturer's own full user guide: documents every control, menu function and specification of the radio (channels, privacy codes, squelch, repeater use, weather alerts, wired RJ45 microphone) with zero mention of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an app, or any account anywhere in the document, including the dedicated Specifications section. — accessed 2026-09-03 - A https://midlandusa.com/products/mxt275-micromobile-gmrs-two-way-radio
Manufacturer's own product page: describes a 'Fully-Integrated Control Microphone' (wired, not the wireless Bluetooth mic Midland sells on its newer MXT295 PRO) and lists price as $199.99 USD; no app or connectivity feature is described. — accessed 2026-09-03 - A https://fccid.io/search?q=Midland+MXT275
FCC grant MMAMXT275 (Midland Radio Corporation, 'MOBILE GMRS TRANSCEIVER'), covering only 462.55-462.725 MHz and 467.55-467.725 MHz — the licensed GMRS/repeater transmit frequencies described in the user guide. No Part 15 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth grant exists for this model; the only radio in the device is the GMRS transceiver itself. — accessed 2026-09-03
