Moultrie Edge 3 Cellular Trail Camera
REJECT Rejected — requires a vendor cloud or account for core function
Why it was rejected
Core function (retrieving captured images) is subscription-gated with no local storage or offline retrieval path: no SD card slot, no free plan, and account creation is mandatory before the camera can be used at all.
The unplug test
It stops functioning as a camera you own. There is no SD card to pull and no USB port to download from — the Edge 3 stores to built-in memory only and depends on cellular upload to Moultrie's cloud to ever show you a photo. Moultrie's own pricing page states every cellular-connected camera requires a paid monthly plan, with no free tier; if the subscription lapses, there is no documented way to retrieve what the camera captured. Setup itself requires creating a Moultrie Mobile account and scanning a QR code to add the camera to it before it will do anything.
Why this tier: The camera has no SD card slot — Moultrie's own product page and support FAQ state it uses built-in memory only and 'automatically uploads all photos and videos to the cloud... No SD card needed.' Moultrie's own plans page states plainly that 'ALL CELLULAR CONNECTED DEVICES REQUIRE A PAID SUBSCRIPTION,' with no free tier. Core function — getting the photo the camera captured — is entirely gated behind a mandatory Moultrie Mobile account and a paid monthly plan, with no local retrieval path of any kind.

Open questions
- Exact FCC grant for the Edge 3's cellular module was not located within budget — Moultrie Feeders' listed FCC grantee (T2V) covers only Bluetooth feeder accessories, not this camera's cellular radio, so the module is likely certified separately (e.g. under a modular cellular chipset maker) and was not tracked down.
- Whether photos already uploaded to the cloud before a subscription lapses remain retrievable, or are deleted/inaccessible, is not stated on the manufacturer's plans page.
- Whether Moultrie has ever discontinued cloud access for a still-owned camera generation (vendor ledger candidate) was not researched within budget.
