The unplug test
There is nothing to unplug from. The Pinecil is a USB-C/barrel-jack powered soldering iron, configured and used entirely from its own on-device menu and OLED screen; the only thing on the network is your own room, if you choose to pair the BLE radio to a phone at all. Every setting -- temperature, sleep behavior, power source negotiation -- lives in the iron itself and in the open-source IronOS firmware you flash onto it over USB, not in any account.
Why this tier: The Pinecil V2's Bouffalo BL706 chip includes Bluetooth Low Energy hardware, and IronOS -- the open-source firmware it ships with as the stock, out-of-box experience -- lists BLE as a supported feature on Pinecil V2 in its current stable release. PINE64 operates no account system, app store, or cloud service of any kind for the iron: BLE is used only for local, in-room communication with a phone or PC, so the radio's presence puts this at D1 rather than D0, with no vendor cloud in the picture to make it D2.

Open questions
- PINE64's own filed FCC compliance document for the Pinecil V2 (https://files.pine64.org/doc/cert/Pinecilv2%20FCC%20Certificate%20LCSA070722057E.pdf, dated 22 July 2022, at Pinecil V2's original launch) covers only FCC Part 15 Subpart B (unintentional-radiator emissions, Class B SDoC) and lists no FCC ID or Part 15C intentional-radiator grant for the BLE radio. This is genuinely inconsistent with the chip-level and firmware-level BLE documentation cited above; it may mean BLE was not yet enabled in shipped firmware at the time of that filing (IronOS's own wiki text calls BLE a 'future' firmware feature as of the V2 launch) and a fuller radiator certification was filed later but not located, or it may be a real compliance gap. Flagged rather than resolved: it does not change what the hardware does, but a maintainer may want to note it.
- Exactly what functions IronOS currently exposes over BLE (read-only telemetry vs. settings changes) and whether any third-party companion app exists were not confirmed beyond the firmware repo's support-table checkmark.
- PINE64 as a company/vendor is not in data/vendors.json; a light search turned up no incident of a PINE64 device losing function post-purchase, but the check was not exhaustive.
