The strap keeps broadcasting your heart rate over Bluetooth LE and ANT+ to anything listening -- a sports watch, a bike computer, gym equipment, any of the 150+ compatible third-party apps -- with no phone nearby and no Polar account ever created. Pairing to a receiving device is done from that device's own sensor menu, no app required. The only things gated behind the Polar Beat or Polar Flow app are optional: training analysis, and firmware updates, which the sensor cannot receive without pairing to one of Polar's own apps.
Why this tier: Polar operates a real vendor cloud (Polar Flow, described on Polar's own product page as 'an online training and workout analysis platform') and the H10's firmware updates are delivered only through the Polar Beat or Polar Flow app -- Polar's own support content states 'To receive the firmware updates, your H10 heart rate sensor needs to be paired with the Polar Beat or Polar Flow app.' That is a vendor cloud this device can use, which rules out D1 under this project's rule that any usable vendor cloud caps the tier at D2, however avoidable it is. Core function -- broadcasting live heart rate over open Bluetooth LE and ANT+ to any receiving watch, bike computer, or third-party app -- needs no app and no account: Polar's own FAQ describes the H10 as usable 'as a standalone device' paired directly from a receiving device's own sensor menu. - Price in current US dollars was not confirmed within budget (Polar's own page showed EUR 99.90; a USD MSRP figure was not independently verified) -- left null rather than guessed.
