The unplug test
The H4essential was never connected to anything to unplug. It is a battery-or-USB-powered field recorder that writes 32-bit float audio straight to a microSD card; when tethered to a computer over USB-C it acts as a plain 4-in/2-out audio interface. Firmware updates are downloaded manually from Zoom's site and installed from the SD card, not pushed over a network the device does not have.
Why this tier: The H4essential records to a microSD card and connects to a computer only by USB-C; Zoom's own product page states wireless remote control 'is possible with the optional BTA-1 Bluetooth Adapter (sold separately)' -- meaning the recorder as sold contains no radio of any kind, and Bluetooth exists only as an add-on module rather than a built-in capability. No app, account, or vendor cloud is mentioned anywhere in its operation.

Open questions
- Price was not confirmed: Zoom's own store page renders pricing via client-side JavaScript not visible in a static fetch, and third-party retailers (B&H, Sweetwater) returned bot-protection challenges rather than content.
- Whether the H4essential itself holds an FCC ID (as an unintentional-radiator digital device, not a radio) was not checked; fccid.io returned a bot-protection challenge during this run.
- Repairability (parts availability, iFixit teardown) was not researched.
