Zooz ZSE41 800LR Z-Wave Long Range Open/Close XS Sensor
D1 Local Only — Speaks only to hardware you control.
The unplug test
Nothing changes, because there was never a Zooz cloud to unplug from. The sensor reports open/close state over Z-Wave directly to whatever hub the owner set it up with; if that hub is a local one (Home Assistant, Hubitat), the whole chain from magnet to automation never leaves the house. Losing your home internet connection has no effect at all — only losing the hub itself would.
Why this tier: Contains a Z-Wave radio (FCC ID 2AZ2V-ZSE41) but Zooz operates no cloud service, app, or account for this product at all. It pairs only to a Z-Wave hub the owner supplies and controls (Home Assistant, Hubitat, SmartThings, HomeSeer, Vera, or Zooz's own Z-Box), and the manufacturer's own manual states no Zooz account or internet connection is needed for any of it.

Open questions
- Current US retail price band not established.
- Not confirmed whether the SmartStart/S2 QR-code inclusion path phones anywhere before pairing to the local hub completes; the manual describes it as a local pairing aid (DSK entry) rather than a cloud handshake, but this specific point was not independently corroborated.

Class A is primary (manual, FCC filing, teardown). Class B is corroborated community reporting. Class C is never sufficient alone.

Manufacturer user manual: pairing is done entirely through the owner's Z-Wave hub (button press or S2 DSK/QR pairing), lists compatible controllers (Z-Box, Home Assistant, HomeSeer, Hubitat, SmartThings), and states no Zooz account or cloud service is required for the sensor to function; the only optional account-like step is product registration for an extended warranty, unrelated to operation. — accessed 2026-09-04 - A https://www.getzooz.com/zooz-zse41-open-close-xs-sensor/
Manufacturer product page confirms the sensor requires a separately-sold Z-Wave hub, is supported natively by open local platforms (Home Assistant, Hubitat, HomeSeer, Vera, Ezlo) with only reduced settings access on the closed SmartThings/Ring Alarm ecosystems, and makes no mention of a Zooz-run cloud or app for this device. — accessed 2026-09-04 - A https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/2AZ2V-ZSE41
FCC equipment authorization confirms an intentional Z-Wave radiator under grantee 2AZ2V, consistent with the manufacturer's own radio-protocol claim. — accessed 2026-09-04
